Two North Fork area communities recently made a list of the top 500 towns and cities in the U.S. for retirement.
LendEDU, an organization offering a marketplace for student loans and student loan refinance, states in the introduction to the study related to the list that "retirement is as topical an issue as ever." They cite the Pew Research that shows that 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 every day of the year for the next 12 years.
In the study, Hotchkiss ranks 349th and Paonia 488th on the "Best Places to Retire" list of top 500 U.S. cities and towns considered best for retiring. The study looked at tens of thousands of towns and cities, and judged them on three sets of criteria: retirement age of the population, accessibility to healthcare, and availability of entertainment.
Other nearby towns making the list are Creede, ranked 14th, Lake City (122), Salida (186), and Ouray (349). The results were posted April 4; the entire list can be accessed at lendedu.com/blog/best-places-retire/
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
