Jaylena Gibson provided information for a recent swim meet in Craig.

Six members of the Delta Barracudas swim team traveled to Craig to compete in the Craig ABC Invitational, including Grady Hellman, Ashton Jones, Xavier Quintanilla, Hannah Sterns, Landre Whelan and Emma Wise.

The team came home with 13 first place finishes.

Coach Amanda Hatch commented, "These six athletes represented the team with excellent swims and outstanding sportsmanship." She had a special shout out for Hellman for bringing home a total of seven first place finishes and the boys' high-point trophy for his age division (7-8).

Hellman started off the meet with a first place finish in the 100 meter freestyle with a winning time of 1:34.40. His remaining six wins came in the 25 meter freestyle (19.12); 50 meter backstroke (53.60; 100 IM (1:55.10); 25 meter butterfly (29.00); 100 meter backstroke (1:46.44); and the 25 meter backstroke (23.19). Hellman had a third in the 25 meter breaststroke (31.16).

Wise competed in the 11-12 girls' division and placed first in the 100 meter breaststroke (2:01.67). Other events and times for Wise included fourth place in the 50 meter backstroke (51.55); fifth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:35.06); sixth in the 50 meter freestyle (43.59) and third in the 100 meter IM (1:50.42).

Xavier Quintanilla competed in the boys' 13 and over division where he was third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:20.43) and fifth in the 50 meter freestyle (34.42).

In the girls' 13 and over division, Sterns was sixth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:30.33); fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (38.39); and second in the 200 meter breaststroke (3:55.21).

Whelan, competing in the 15 and over girls' division, picked up five first place finishes and a third. Whelan was first in the 200 meter backstroke (3:07.59); 100 meter butterfly (1:39.23) 200 meter freestyle (3:34.60); 200 meter butterfly; and the 200 meter IM (3:11.86). She was third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:17.85).

Jones, competing in the boys' 15 and over division, had a first in the 50 meter freestyle (30.01), and a pair of seconds in the 100 meter freestyle (1:05.16) and 200 meter breaststroke (2:48.87).
