By Eric Goold

The wrestlers at Hotchkiss High School keep posting impressive wins. On the Mat ranks the Bulldogs as No. 6 in 2A, right behind Paonia.

The Bulldogs had only one event last week. They went to Grand Valley for a tri-meet and posted dual wins over the host and Glenwood Springs.

Hotchkiss beat Grand Valley 65-9 in the first dual. Four Bulldogs won by pinfall: Colton Cordova at 113 pounds, Colton Hall (126), Colton DeLuzio (132) and Kale Litzelman (170).

Chris Lovato won by technical fall at 120 and the Bulldogs picked up several points with wins by forfeit in open divisions.

The match against Glenwood Springs was a battle that actually ended in a 39-39 tie, but Hotchkiss picked up the win based on the fourth tie breaker (technical falls).

Three Bulldogs won by pin in the dual: Austin Todd at 145 pounds, Devin Curtis (195) and Connor Collins (heavyweight).

At 120, Lovato won a major decision for Hotchkiss and Wade Katzdorn scored a technical fall victory at 160.

Hotchkiss has a tri-meet scheduled versus No. 3 Meeker and No. 4 Nucla/Naturita at home on Friday night, then will be at the Screamin' Eagle tournament in Paonia on Saturday.

Bruins win tourney

The Cedaredge wrestling team got a nice tournament win last Saturday, winning the 18-team Rob Mickel Tournament in Salida.

The Bruins were led by two individual champs. Zach Anderson won at 170 pounds while senior standout Tre LaBossiere captured the championship at 195.

Cedaredge had three second place finishers: Blake Nation (120), Colton Hoerr (138) and Landon Eckhart (182).

Finishing in third place for Cedaredge were Dakota Nequette (126) and Anthony Antuna (220).

Paonia hosts

No. 5 Paonia has a busy week.

The Eagles host a dual against a very strong Olathe team on Thursday night.

Then the Paonia Duals are on Friday and Saturday features one of Paonia's highlights of the season, the Screamin' Eagle Tournament, scheduled for the Paonia gym at 8 a.m.
