The Hotchkiss High School volleyball team is having some growing pains, but the young Bulldogs squad continues to improve and build toward the future.
After a pair of 0-3 losses last week, the Bulldogs stood at 4-4 on the campaign before last night's home match against Cedaredge.
The defeats at home on Sept. 9 against Hayden and Sept. 10 against Soroco were mirror images of each other as the Bulldogs held leads and played well at times before succumbing to miscues and unforced errors.
Hotchkiss fell behind early to Hayden and lost the first game to the Tigers 16-25. The Bulldogs lost by an identical tally in game two, then rallied and played their best volleyball in a 25-27 loss in game three.
Soroco frustrated the Bulldogs last Saturday as Hotchkiss came out inspired before losing the critical first game 24-26. Hotchkiss trailed early before a strong service run from Jordan Tamayo put the Bulldogs ahead 15-12.
Freshman Shay Glaser had two winners and Hotchkiss led 23-20. Hotchkiss served for game point at 24-23, but the Rams won sideout and got the last two points to win the well-played first game.
Hotchkiss lost game two to the Rams 14-25 and then fell in the final stanza 13-25.
Hotchkiss hosted Cedaredge last night and is at North Park on Friday and West Grand on Saturday.
