Cedaredge resident Ruth C. Dawson died March 23, 2017, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 91.
A celebration of life service was held March 26 at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in East Resthaven Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz.
Ruth C. Parkinson was born Nov. 22, 1925, to Roland and Catherine (Grover) Parkinson in St. Cloud, Minn. She grew up in St. Cloud and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 12. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School.
She married Everden Casey in Phoenix in 1945. They had two sons and the marriage later dissolved in divorce.
In 1951, she married Foster Dawson in Phoenix. He died in 1969.
Mrs. Dawson was a member of Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church, Cedaredge Rebekah Lodge and Grand Mesa VFW Lodge #9221 Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered for the Cedaredge Senior Center serving meals.
She was known for her cooking. She enjoyed making porcelain dolls, playing bingo and spending time with family.
Survivors include her son, David (Christine) Casey of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her son, Thomas Casey who was killed in combat in 1968; three brothers, Roland, Russell and Elmo; and her sister, Elizabeth.
