An exhibition titled "Sticks and Stones" opens Saturday, Nov. 12, at the 4th and Main Exchange in downtown Delta. The show will feature mixed media and more from Jean Marie Stortz, a Delta artist and oil painter. The show can be viewed on the mezzanine through Dec. 8.

Stortz, who is known for her local adobe paintings is now utilizing natural found items and creating new works. Weaving grasses, pine needles, branches and stones into two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.

Jean's first natural art pieces were in the Hotchkiss Fine Arts group show at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts at the beginning of the year. She is now expanding on the sticks and stones theme.

Last fall Jean was trimming some tall grasses in front of her home and she was inspired to weave the new found dried grasses. She is fascinated by the life cycle and beauty of nature. It creates inspiration everywhere she turns. She shares one of her favorite quotes, by Aristotle, "In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous."

New colorful acrylic paintings of bison and photographs of her most recent trip to Alaska will be included in this show. The photos show the end of life cycle of the bountiful Alaskan fish. There is awesomeness and beauty in all aspects of nature's life cycle.
