The second annual Run with a Nurse 5k Fun Run/Walk had approximately 50 participants run or walk the trails at Confluence Park on May 21. Participants started at Lions Pavilion and went around the lake.
Top runners were:
Christie Aschwanden, 22:10, first; Luis Meza, 22:51, second; Mike Burton, 24:00, third.
The top walkers were:
Lisa Rottinhaus, 47:35, first; Cheryl DeJulio, 47:35.01, second; Elaine Sakala, 48:13, third.
First-place finishers won DCMH camp chairs, road ID gift cards and a $20 Doghouse Espresso gift card.
Second-place prizes were DCMH camp chairs, road ID gift cards and $15 Doghouse gift cards. For third place, winners won a $10 Doghouse Espresso gift card plus a camp chair and road ID gift card.
A special prize went to a nurse who participated in the event. Kathy Akers received a nursing tote filled with goodies.
The 5k nurses' committee thanks event sponsors HopeWest, Valley Manor Care Center & Rehab - VOA, Grace Health Care, Rural Physicians Group, Delta County Commissioner Mark Roeber, Amerigas, Delta County Medical Society, Hartman Brothers, Delta County Memorial Hospital medical staff physicians and Pepsi for water donation.
The Delta County Memorial Hospital nurses plan to continue this 5k to support local nursing and provide educational opportunities for the nursing community.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
