Photo by Hank Lohmeyer Young athletes were off to a fast start at the eighth annual AppleFest 5k Run/Walk on Saturday.

The eighth annual AppleFest 5k saw 119 entries this year.

The AppleFest 5k is a totally homegrown event that benefits Boy Scout Troop 482. There were participants in every age group with the oldest runner crossing the finish line at a vital 81 years of age.

Following is the list of the top three finishers in each category of the run as provided by AppleFest5k.com:

Age 0-11 girls -- Madelyn Lindsay, Autumn Cordell, Emma Cummings.

Age 12-19 girls -- Kenna Signs, Taelor Mills, Olivia Lindsay.

Age 20-35 women -- Christian Harriman, Erica Schmidt, Libby Waibel.

Age 36-49 women --Stephanie Hanson, Julie Irby, Torrey Anderson.

Age 50-59 women -- LaDonna Gunn, Ann Goehl, Connie Grantham.

Age 60+ women -- Sandy Sheefer, Roni Wilson, Linda Jones.

Age 0-11 boys -- AJ Dollarhide, Gideon G, Ben C.

Age 12-19 boys -- Trevor Bolton, Wyatt Camp, Blake Tullis.

Age 20-35 men -- Alex Coy Jr., Carter Synhorst, Alejandro Alejandre.

Age 36-49 men -- Charlie Cordell, Nate Tullis, Evan Cummings.

Age 50-59 men -- John Coy, Scot Buhrdorf, Don Dibb.

Age 60+men -- Gerald Harding, Jeff Harm.

The first male crossed the finish line with a time of 23:40.

The first woman finisher had a time of 24:38.
