A convergence of events will bring a big weekend of activity to Cedaredge Aug. 3 through 6.
Those are the dates that the annual Serenity Run motorcycle rally will happen this year with events that normally begin as riders from all over rolling to town on Thursday and continue through to Sunday.
On Friday, Aug. 4, the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce's 1st Friday Art walk will take place.
Then on Saturday, Aug. 5, another in the Celebrate Cedaredge series of street fairs happens.
Also on Friday and Saturday the Grand Mesa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Auxiliary will host all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts at the Community (Civic) Center from 7 to 10 a.m.
Serenity Run events have normally included a poker run, a guest speaker and dance for attendees, and a banquet. There is always a much anticipated motorcycle parade from camp sites north of town on Saturday. The International Serenity Run newsletter notes that camp sites are available at both Aspen Trails and Big Spruce.
For any local residents interested in details of the event, organizers usually begin posting notices and the schedule of activities around midweek before the riders arrive. Those activities have traditionally begun on Thursday evening with a free welcoming dinner hosted at the Cedaredge Assembly of God.
Restaurants, grocery and convenience stores, and other local businesses will benefit from the annual commercial boost the event brings here every summer.
The people of Cedaredge and the surrounding community have been responsible for making the Serenity Run event a success with their open-arms welcome for the bikers, and especially for the clean and sober lifestyles they have adopted and that are the spiritual focus of the run. There are 12-step meetings scheduled throughout the event.
There is always the Saturday motorcycle parade through town for which local residents line the streets to cheer their support for riders' efforts at changing the world beginning with improving their own lives and persons first.
