A magical night of lights in Cedaredge

By Hank Lohmeyer

The annual Parade of Lights, a valley-wide Christmas celebration staged along Cedaredge Main Street, attracted hundreds of onlookers Dec. 3.

Almost as if on cue, the town's Main Street filled with hundreds of people just before the start of the 6 p.m. event. The half-hour-long parade was one of the biggest and brightest in memory, spectators said. Participants ranged from animal acts and community organization floats to big, brightly lit-up service trucks and fire department equipment.

Other events of the day and evening included a grand opening of the new StoryWalk feature at Surface Creek Trail; a performance by the Cedaredge Community Band playing Christmas music from the chamber's portico during events; a Christmas tree lighting that organizers hope will be conducted next year at a location in Town Park; and two shows by the Kokopelli Bell Choir from Grand Junction performing at Chapel of the Cross.

This year's parade winners were Brook's Service, first; Thunder Mountain Wheelers, second; Bank of Colorado, third; and S&E Ward Landscaping, fourth.

On Monday, the Cedaredge Chamber announced the winners of the business lighting contest, with first place going to Augusta's Tea Room at 245 NW 3rd Street; second to Tri-R Motel at 885 S. Grand Mesa Drive; and third to Annie's Pizzeria at 280 W. Main Street.
