Alice Loretta Gale died May 31, 2017, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. She was 81.
She was born in Livermore on July 31, 1935, to Charles and Loretta (Holland) Gale. She moved from Livermore to Delta as a young child and attended several one-room school houses in Delta County. She graduated from Delta High School in 1953.
On May 31, 1953, she married Marvin Grant. They had five children and later divorced.
In 1966, the family moved from Olathe to Delta, and Mrs. Gale began working for Garnet Mesa Elementary School as a dishwasher. After working in the schools for 20 years, she retired as a cook at Lincoln Elementary.
Baptized as a young girl, she attended Garnet Mesa Baptist Church and First Baptist Church before she moved to Missouri to be with family.
Mrs. Gale enjoyed reading, working on word and jigsaw puzzles, cooking, gardening, canning, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her five children, Eugene Grant of Denver, Diana (James) Pfeiler of Idalia, Glenda (Tim) King of Fruita, Gerald (Teresa) Grant of Seneca, Mo., and Leroy (Ann) Grant of Burlington; a sister, Thelma Pitts of Springfield, Ore.; a brother, Charles (JoAnne) Gale of Pueblo; a brother-in-law, Mark (Joanne) Sirag of Ft. Bradenton, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by two infant siblings; her sister, Ruth Sirag; and a brother-in-law, Jerold Pitts.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral services were held June 5 at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Mesa View Cemetery.
