Alice Merty Beaman Winkler died Aug. 8, 2017, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert, where she resided since October 2010. She was 97.
A private family inurnment was held at Delta City Cemetery.
She was born in Sedgwick to Floyd and Merty (Powers) Beaman on May 31, 1920. She grew up in Sedgwick and Denver and attended school at East High School in Denver.
On Nov. 19, 1938, she married William Winkler in Edgewater. They were married 34 years.
She assisted her husband in housing construction around Sacramento, Calif., except during World War II when they worked in the shipyards in Seattle, Wash., repairing naval ships.
In 1952, they began farming in North Delta and continued for the next 20 years. To supplement their income, she worked at the Delta Cannery and later as a histology technician at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction.
She is survived by her children, James (Rosie) Winkler of Delta, Jerry (Nancy) Winkler of Eckert and Jackie (Don) Churches of Livingston, Texas; brother, Floyd "Corky" Beaman Jr. of Leadville; grandchildren, Mary (Doug) Strickland, Robert (Chris) Winkler, Cris (Jere) Goodman, Carolyn (Rod) Arnold, Judy (Tim) Cole, Jade "Buck" (Deli) Whomble, Arnold (Londa) Winkler, Kenneth (Chris) Churches, all of Colorado, William (Amber) Winkler of Missouri and Cynthia (Kris) Vilander of Alabama; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and extended family.
Mrs. Winkler was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; brothers, Merle and James Beaman; sisters, Edith Roberts and Carol Kirkpatrick; and daughter, Janice Whomble.
Upon her request, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Her cremains were placed beside her husband in Delta City Cemetery. She also requested, in remembrance, to plant a tree, bush or help one in need.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
