Alvin L. Cerise died Friday, June 24, 2016, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. He was 84.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Mr. Cerise was born in Basalt Sept. 14, 1931, to John and Darphine (Usel) Cerise. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in the Roaring Fork Valley.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was married to Patricia McCain for a period of time. He worked as a rural postal carrier and later as a water commissioner for the State of Colorado.
He married Billie Spann on Nov. 18, 1983, in Glenwood Springs. They lived in Silt and Hotchkiss before moving to Austin 16 years ago.
Mr. Cerise was a member of Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear. He enjoyed fishing, pruning trees and was an advocate for recycling much of his adult life.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Cerise of Austin; his sons, David Cerise and Duane Cerise, both of Rifle, and Delton (Lynette) Cerise of Glenwood Springs; his daughters, Diana (Charles) Pearson of Fruita and Dixie (Steve) Richards of Hotchkiss; his sister, Deanna (Norman) Miles of California; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Collard and David Collard; his sisters, Anita Hatch and Ella Stapleton; and a nephew.
