Photo by Wayne Crick Delta's John Ames was well ahead of his teammate Garrison Paniagua as he won Saturday's CC race in 16:52.43.

Delta High School's boys cross country team scored just 44 points to win last Friday's Pantherfest Invitational cross country meet at Confluence Park. John Ames had his best time of the year as he crossed the finish line in 16:52.43, which was nearly nine seconds faster than last week's time at Sweitzer Lake.

Delta's girls finished fifth in the team race, which was won by Steamboat Springs with 28 points. Second place went to Paonia's Eagles with 55 points followed by Basalt (83) and Olathe (84). The Panthers were next with 107 points and Center had 138 points to finish sixth.

Delta's boys were aided in the win by Garrison Paniagua's second-place finish with a time of 17:02.93. Shad Lewis was Delta's third runner to finish the race and ran the course in 18:06.09, shaving nearly 36 seconds off last week's time, to place 14th.

Logan Freed was Delta's fourth runner to finish (18th) with his time of 18:21.37. Caleb Williams shaved 24 seconds off last week's time (at Sweitzer Lake) and placed 20th in 18:25.87. David Husmann placed 25th after recording a time of 18:32.14.

In the girl's race, Steamboat's Maggi Congdon claimed individual honors with her 18:58.17. Anha Richards ran a 21:15.52 and was Delta's first runner to cross the finish line for ninth place. Her time was nearly 25 seconds faster than her race at Sweitzer a week earlier.

Completing the scoring for the Panthers were Hana Hollenbeck (21st, 22:29.75), Abby Williams (25th, 22:46.08), Ashtain Turner (48th, 25:15.22), and Samantha Cassel (56th, 26:33.24).
