An old Eagle completes the circle in Paonia

Success -- it always feels like it should happen for both the individual and the team (group). It sure takes both halves to make success be complete and feel as good as it can. The ideal is for both parts to happen at the same time. But for some of us, "completing the circle" takes so much longer and lots of "curves in the road." This is one of those stories. As an Eagle athlete at a 1-A school (Scott HS, Scott, La.) I had a fair share of success as an individual. Team success (in terms of winning games we should have won) was a lot harder to come by. Even for those games where I had, for example, lots of solo tackles, what I should have been able to feel from the personal accomplishments was overshadowed by having to deal emotionally with one more L (loss)! We "just know," if it's a group activity THE TEAM is more important than "the me." That's why no amount of "both parts" success I've enjoyed in many areas of life since then was ever able to fill the hole of not being a member of winning sport teams during my high school years.
Fortunately, my instincts were screaming at me when I discovered (a year ago) the Paonia Eagles' winning ways in all sports! It was very clear that becoming a part of and contributing to this would be the second half that would "complete my circle." The reality is even more exciting and satisfying than I had imagined! Many thanks to the people here in Paonia that are so committed to nurturing the habit of "preparing to perform" as well as we can in sports, academics, etc.! As a very mature head coach teaches, "We win the game in how we prepare on Monday through Thursday. Friday night we get to play the game and enjoy the results!" What a wonderful experience for our young students to have, right now, and to move forward with! Great for this "old Eagle" too, to come home and complete the circle!
