This was supposed to be a down year for the Paonia High School wrestling team.

After having its consecutive streak of three straight 2A state titles snapped by Rocky Ford last year and after finishing second to Hotchkiss at regionals for the first time in years, no one expected too much from the Eagles at state this year.

VFW recognizes award-winning student writers

Six award-winning student writers of patriotic essays, including four from Delta County, have been recognized for their talent and effort as VFW District 11 winners in the high school Voice of Democracy and the middle school Patriot's Pen essay contests.

Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Auxiliary #3571 of Delta hosted the District 11 meeting on Feb. 14 where the students' awards were presented.

Rotary helps fund classes for NFA crew

Paonia resident Steve Simpson will soon be one of a handful of North Fork Ambulance crew members to be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate.

Simpson originally joined NFA in 1995, then later worked full time for the Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD) before going to work at the coal mines.
