Become informed about ambulance tax question

Last April the Delta County Ambulance District's board of directors passed a resolution to put a ballot measure to the voters in the November election. Ballot issue 5A asks district property owners to approve a 3.25 mils increase changing the tax rate from the current 2.25 mills to 5.75 mills.
The district's revenues suffered during the last recession and have seen continuing declining reimbursements in Medicare and Medicaid billings. Approximately 70 percent of the district's patients are covered under these government programs. Over the last three years, the board has been able to cover expenses using savings from the building improvements and equipment purchasing fund. The savings will be depleted this year.
The district is a Colorado special district and is limited in election campaigning under the Fair Campaign Practices Act. Therefore, several citizens of the district have formed a group called the Friends of the Delta County Ambulance District. The purpose of the group is to provide the district's property owners with the information they need to make an informed decision on this ballot issue.
The group has registered with the State of Colorado as an Issues Committee. All donations and expenses in support of the board's resolution will be reported to the state and are available for public review.
The Friends group has established a Facebook page where regular postings are made on the district's history, organization, personnel, finances, services and stories from residents/visitors.
