BELA provides amazing opportunities for kids

Dear Editor:

As parents, we see enormous value in providing young children with the opportunity to love education before they even start kindergarten. We are extremely lucky to have BELA (Backpack Early Learning Academy) preschools in Delta County to start our kids on the right foot. Many factors make BELA an exceptional introduction to school for Delta County kids. A wonderful collaboration between BELA staff and the Delta County School District has allowed our preschoolers to attend local elementary schools, meeting their future teachers, learning lunchroom routines, establishing library and hallway etiquette, and finding out what it means to be a student from examples all around them. BELA teachers, well-trained in early childhood education, do an excellent job of providing these and other life lessons, at the same time giving our youngsters the compassion and nurturing they still require as 3- and 4-year-olds.

BELA provides opportunities for learning outside the school as well, with their amazing Backpack box program, which gives each participating family a new themed box every month containing educational toys, books, craft projects and more. The amount of work that goes into making these programs function effectively is mind-boggling, but as parents we see the product of a successful team with a smoothly running system. Financial assistance and an accommodating staff make it easy for us to enroll our children and know they are safe throughout the school year. Because of the high quality of their introduction to school, we believe that our son and his classmates have a better chance of success in their future education, social lives, and creative endeavors. We would like to thank BELA staff and their supporters for making this possible for Delta County's youngest residents.
