Bernard Nutt

Bernard E. "Bernie" Nutt died at his home in Cedaredge on Oct. 18, 2016. He was 91.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Cedaredge Cemetery.

He was born in Castana, Iowa, July 19, 1925, to H.E. and Gladys Nutt.

He graduated from Castana High School and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942, right after his 18th birthday. He took basic training in Miami Beach, Fla., and learned to fly Piper Cubs. He became a navigator on a B-24 and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant. After his discharge, he joined the Air Force Reserves and was promoted to 1st lieutenant.

Taking advantage of his GI bill, he furthered his education at Wayne State in 1946. He graduated with his BS in education and later earned his Master's in Education from Omaha University. He served as a school administrator from 1950 until retirement in 1987.

He was an Army Air Corps Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was also a member of Lincoln American Legion Post #3 from 1945 to 1987.

Mr. Nutt married Darlene Dale in 1950.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Darlene Nutt; a son, Dave Nutt; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister; and a son, Douglas Nutt.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
