Bernice Musser

Delta resident Bernice "Bernie" Musser died Nov. 30, 2017, at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 95.

She was born in Delta Aug. 15, 1922, to L.H. and Carrie (Doty) Hendrickson. The family moved to Escalante Forks in 1930 where she attended school in the lower grades. She graduated from Delta High School in 1940, and attended Mesa Junior College and Colorado State Teachers College, where she earned her teaching certificate.

She taught one year at Cedaredge Elementary School before marrying John "Jack" Musser in 1944. They spent the next 48 years on the Musser Ranch in Escalante Canyon before moving to Delta after they sold the ranch in 1988.

Mrs. Musser served as a board member of Delta County and Colorado State Farm Bureau, and the Delta County Historical Society. She was active in both local and Colorado State Cowbelles and Friends of the Library. She was also a member of the Captain John Gunnison Chapter of DAR.

She enjoyed giving Escalante Canyon history tours, playing bridge, socializing and her family.

Mrs. Musser is survived by her children, Margaret "Margie" (Ray) Veatch and John (Vicki) Musser; grandchildren, Shaun (Pam) Veatch of Montrose, Cara (Justin) Watada of Greeley and Justin (Danielle) Musser of Montrose; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Elin and Dylan Watada of Greeley.
