Bette Starr died Nov. 4, 2016, at Crossroads in Delta. She was 95.
She was born near Cedaredge on Sept. 4, 1921, to Ruth (Davis) and Corvan Hallock. She graduated from Delta High School in 1939.
In 1941, she married Emerson Morris, but was soon widowed after the birth of their son, Jack.
On Feb. 22, 1948, she married Philip Starr. They harvested crops of apples, peaches and pears. They also ran cattle on their ranch, where they lived until 1992 when they retired to live "in town" in Cedaredge.
Mrs. Starr enjoyed playing golf and bridge, gathering with the ladies at PEO meetings and being active in her church.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Philip Starr; her children, Jack (Jeanne) Morris of Longview, Wash., Kathy (Chase) Wiening of Orchard City and Richard (Shellee) Starr of Sylva, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Starr of Hotchkiss; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emerson Morris; a son, Robert "Bob" Starr; a granddaughter, Christy Weining; a sister, June Kelley; and a brother, Warren Hallock.
A celebration of life will be held at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church Friday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. Reverend Joe Agne will officiate.
