Longtime Delta County resident Charlotte "Betty" TeGrotenhuis died Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Crossroads Assisted Living Center in Delta. She was 94.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Charlotte E. Bryan was born in Paonia Jan. 1, 1922, to Clyde and Mery (Filson) Bryan. She spent her childhood and attended school in Paonia, graduating from Paonia High School in 1939. She attended Mesa State College.
On Nov. 24, 1946, she married Kenneth TeGrotenhuis in Paonia.
She tried enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II, but did not pass her physical so she went to work for United Airlines riveting wings during the war.
She was a member of Hotchkiss United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking care of her family, playing bridge, cooking, watching sports, especially the Denver Broncos and the San Antonio Spurs.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynda (Harold) Clay of Delta, Cara (Jake) Wagner of Nashville, Tenn., and Connie Shuss of Hotchkiss; a son, Bryan (Sharon) TeGrotenhuis of Hotchkiss; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister and her husband of 63 years, Kenneth, who died in August 2010.
