For the 28th year the BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado will hold its annual Top O' the Rockies Rally in Paonia. While the official rally runs July 20-23, cyclists will begin arriving a little early, said Paonia event coordinator Bob Bushta. The BMW Motorcycle Owners of America's national rally runs July 13-16 in Utah, and once it's over, riders will head to Paonia.

Now in its 46th year, the rally is the longest continuous rally of its kind in North America, as sanctioned by the Motorcycle Owners of America. The BMWMCC sponsors other rides, but this is their biggest one, said Bushta, and draws hundreds of cyclists, motorcycles and support vehicles to Paonia Town Park.

Set-up officially begins July 19. The rally will include live music, social events, meals, two food vendors, and lots of activities, including a movie night, meals, games and special presentations. The Paonia High School senior class will serve breakfast daily next Thursday through Sunday at the Ellen Hansen Smith Teen Center, and the Kids Pasta Project will serve a homemade pasta dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday. A bake sale to benefit the Abraham Connection in Delta will run throughout the event, and the Paonia Cherry Days Committee's Beer Garden will open daily at 11 a.m., with proceeds benefiting the 2018 Cherry Days festival.

The public is invited to enjoy music by the Sammy Eubanks Band starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The band features music in the traditions of BB King, Ray Charles, Steppenwolf and Eric Clapton, to name a few. The public is welcome to check out the bikes and mingle with their owners, but is asked to stay out of their camping area for privacy and security reasons.
