At their May 21 meeting the county commissioners heard a report on progress at Blake Field.
Mark and Cheryl Husmann, Smiling Aviation, reported aircraft based at Blake Field are 63: one helicopter, one motor-glider, several single and twin engines, and several experimental aircraft. Takeoffs and landings are up 45.3 percent, consisting of 486 based aircraft and 421 non-based.
Mark Husmann reported that the taxi lane and crosswind runway are completed. He said that on May 18, a dozen aircraft flew in to fuel up on their way the Grand Junction air show. He added that Blake Field regularly services pilots from California to Oshkosh, Wis., who stop in for gas. "Our low prices attract a lot of people," Husmann said.
