Members of the Cedaredge High School four-time consecutive Class 1A state champion marching band have been busy all summer with band-related activities including band camp for some, and fundraising projects.
Band members are engaging in a fundraising push to pay costs for their by-invitation appearance in the nation's Memorial Day observance in Washington, D.C., next year.
Band members have been setting up booths at local events including the Cedaredge downtown street fair, Ride The Rockies, and the Delta County Fair, band parents told the Delta County Independent.
Some of the Bruin musicians were also volunteering to take tickets at a county fair event in exchange for a donation to their Washington, D.C., trip project, and a walk-a-thon was also set for earlier this week.
A big development in Bruin band fundraising is announcement of a challenge grant from an area community foundation. The challenge is to raise $5,000 that will be matched by the foundation, explained band mom Lesley Lewis.
Also in store is a fundraiser golf tournament that will take place on Aug. 15. For details and entry information on the tournament, participants are asked to call the Cedaredge Golf Course at 856-7781.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
