A large field meant keen competition for Cedaredge's track teams at Coal Ridge last week. The Bruins boys scored 98 points to finish second in the 19-team field while the girls finished seventh with 49 points in a 17-team field.
Four first place finishes fueled Cedaredge's race for a team title. Coal Ridge had too much for all the teams, however, and scored 154 points to win the title.
Individual winners for the Bruins were Xander Purcell in shot put (42-4) and Patrick Walker in discus competition (137-5).
Two relay teams, 400m (45.32) and 800m (1:33.82) also earned first place finishes. The only other Bruins relay team to place was the 3200m team (9:18.04).
Brendon Klaseen was challenged in his specialities and managed to finish second in the 400m dash (51.55) and was third in the 800m (2:03.09). Drew Markley also picked up a second place finish with his 42.32 in the 300m hurdles race.
Zach Ketelsen turned in a solid performance in triple jump with a leap of 39-11 to finish second with Josh Jenkins placing third in the event (38-10).
Wyatt Camp's 12.10 in the 100m dash was good for fourth place with Caleb Williams (3200m) and Austin Meyers (shot put) placing fifth.
Ty Grant had a sixth place time in the 400m and Zak Morgan finished just out of the points in the 110m high hurdles.
Katie Hyke and Emily Tullis had the best finishes for the Bruins in Coal Ridge.
Hyke was second in shot put (35-9.25) and discus (104-11) with Tullis' 17.85 good enough for second in 100m hurdles competition.
The Bruins tripled up on points in shot put with Grace Andrews placing fourth (30-0) and Dalia Alejandre finishing seventh.
Relay teams for Cedaredge placing in the top seven included the 3200m team (third, 10:58.46), 800m sprint medley (fifth, 2:00.05) and 800m team (sixth, 1:58.49).
Camie Baldozier's 2:36.47 in the 800m run added fourth place points to Cedaredge's team totals.
The Bruins will compete in Montrose this weekend.
