The Cedaredge head boys' basketball coach will bring a staff that enters its sixth season with the Bruins. Joining head coach Kevin Dunbar will be assistants Derek Kehmeier and Dave Boyd.
The Bruins were 7-5 in the 2A WSL last season and 9-12 overall.
A first-round win over West Grand in district play looked promising in Cedaredge's bid to reach post-season play. But the Hotchkiss Bulldogs ended the Bruins' season with a six-point win in the second round.
There are 28 players looking for starting roles throughout Cedaredge's hoops program, with six seniors leading the charge. Tyler Cooper, Shane Gates and Garrett Meyers will be part of the senior leadership team as the season gets underway.
Junior Christian Rey-nolds is expected to add to a volatile offense that could be in the hunt for league honors.
There are eight juniors who are also looking for varsity playing time to make competition keen. Three of those juniors, Reynolds, Chris Lindley and Isaac Swoffer are listed on this year's varsity roster.
Dunbar's thoughts on teams to beat can generally be the same nearly every season. "Top teams in the league are always Paonia, Hotchkiss and Meeker. If we can compete with these teams, we will have a successful season."
As for team goals for the season and how the Bruins will fare, "our ultimate goal is always to reach the state tournament, and to do that we will have to finish as a top team in our league. We have a team that can compete for a top spot and emerge as a contender at the regional tournament."
