Cedaredge Bruins' boys basketball team has been close to winning several games that came down to a one, two or three possession swing. Most of those games went to the Bruins' opponents. After being down by six at the end of the first quarter against the visiting Gunnison Cowboys (2-3 in league and 5-9 overall) on Saturday, the Bruins rallied to tie the score at 25-all by halftime. A strong fourth quarter carried Cedaredge to a 53-47 win over the Cowboys.

Prior to the Gunnison game the Bruins traveled to Olathe (1-4 in league and 3-12 overall) where they faced an improving Pirates team. In a game where Cedaredge had more than ample opportunities, according to head coach Craig Cerise, execution down the stretch allowed the Pirates to preserve a 75-72 victory.

Cedaredge, 1-4 in the 3A WSL and 6-8 overall, will face Vail Christian (2A District 5, 7-3 and 7-8), on Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards. The Bruins play host to Aspen on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m.

Olathe 75, Bruins 72

Despite getting 36 points from senior Christian Reynolds and 20 points from junior Peter Carlson, the Bruins could not make several key shots late in the game to pull out a win.

Olathe held the hot hand throughout the contest and had enough defense at game's end to hold off the scrappy Bruins.

Both Christian Reynolds and Carlson were dominate on the boards with Reynolds hauling down 12 rebounds and Carlson another 11 carroms.

The Bruins were effective in the assists department with nine players contributing a total of 25 dish-offs.

Bruins 53, Cowboys 47

Gunnison looked to be taking control of the game early and built a 16-10 lead in the first period.

Christian Reynolds dumped in six points in each of the first and second quarters helping the Bruins tie the score at 25 by halftime.

Jared Reynolds poured in 11 of the Bruins' 18 fourth quarter points to guide Cedaredge to its comeback win, 53-47.

Christian Reynolds finished the game with 16 points and Jared had 13. Jose Alarcon was the game's leading scorer with 19 points and Cowboy teammate Trent Cribari finished with 12.
