The Cedaredge Bruin girls put themselves right back into the thick of things with their 42-40 win over Paonia on Saturday. That game was played in Paonia and avenges an earlier 54-39 loss to the Eagles on Jan. 22. (See related story.)

Cedaredge played Rangely earlier in the week, Feb. 5, and scored a 57-30 win. The week's wins moved the Bruins' record to 8-1 in 2A WSL play and 15-1 overall. According to Maxpreps.com, the Bruins are ranked first in 2A state rankings.

In boys' action, the Bruins, after starting slow, took over the game from the second quarter on and scored a 62-52 win over Rangely in 2A WSL action. Cedaredge lost to Paonia, 62-37, on Saturday.

Girls
Bruins 57, Rangely 30

Cedaredge's defense allowed 11 points in the opening quarter and then limited the Panther offense to single-digit scoring in each of the remaining three periods of play.

Hannah Gilmore scored eight points and Kendall McHugh six in Cedaredge's 18-11 first-quarter run.

Nellie Freeman had eight counters in the second stanza to lead the Bruins on a 14-8 run and a 32-19 halftime lead.

After the break, Freeman and McHugh scored six points each, guiding Cedaredge on a 15-8 romp.

The Bruins outscored Rangely 10-3 in fourth-quarter play, making the final score 57-30.

Freeman finished with 16 points and teammates McHugh and Gilmore scored 12 points each. Katelyn Brown and Kayte Allred scored nine points apiece for the Panthers.

Boys
Bruins 62, Rangely 52

A slow start turned into a 2A WSL win for the Bruins.

Rangely opened with a 13-12 advantage after one period of play. A turn-around second period gave the Bruins a 29-28 lead heading into locker rooms for halftime.

The Bruins had their biggest quarter, in point- margin difference, in the third quarter with a 17-12 run.

Cedaredge added another 17 points in the fourth quarter while its defense gave up just 12 to make the final score 62-52.

Rangely's Patrick Scoggins scored 19 points to lead the Panthers' offensive attack.

The Bruins played Hotchkiss (5-4, 6-10) on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and will play Plateau Valley (2-7, 3-11) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cedaredge concludes its regular season schedule on Feb. 20 against Caprock Academy at 3 p.m. in Cedaredge.
