Bruin volleyball team rolls, leads 2A/1A WSGML teams

The top two teams in Class 2A/1A Western Slope Grand Mesa volleyball standings are separated by one game in the overall rankings while two wins separate the league standings leaders.
Cedaredge holds the lead in both categories with records of 10-0 and 14-3 while Paonia is 8-1 and 13-3.
Plateau Valley is third in standings with marks of 8-4 and 11-5.
Cedaredge's schedule last week included league matches against Meeker and Plateau Valley. In Meeker, the Bruins earned a 3-0 win on Friday and then traveled to Collbran to take a 3-0 win over the Cowboys.
In Meeker the Bruins started the match with a 25-17 win in set one. Meeker could not do much better in set two as Cedaredge played to a 25-18 win and a 2-0 lead. The final set, 25-15, gave the Bruins a match win, 3-0.
Hannah Gilmore led Cedaredge's defense with five blocks and was effective on offense with 11 kills and two aces.
Nellie Freeman had an all-around solid match with nine kills, three aces, 20 digs and 10 service receptions.
Kenzie Henderson posted eight kills, 19 digs and 13 service receptions. Amber Jenkins had 18 digs and 12 service receptions.
Against Plateau Valley, Henderson had 10 kills, two blocks, 13 digs and 12 service receptions. Jenkins served two aces, had 20 digs and 15 service receptions. Kendall McHugh had 20 assists.
The Bruins' three-set win included scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-21.
Cedaredge's next court appearance, following this Tuesday's rematch against Paonia, will be Friday, Oct. 23, at home with Caprock Academy which has 2-9 and 5-10 season record postings.
