Bruins 2-0 in 1A WSL football

Following last Friday's 14-12 win in Olathe, Cedaredge has opened the season with a 2-0 record. A week prior, the Bruins dealt Basalt a 21-6 defeat.
Bruins 21, Basalt 6
Against Basalt the Bruins took a 9-3 lead to the locker room at halftime on the strength of a Brendon Klaseen field goal in the second quarter. Both teams had scored touchdowns in the first quarter but had failed to convert on extra point attempts.
Cedaredge held the Longhorns scoreless in the third period while the Bruins' offense scored a touchdown and another Brendon Klaseen field goal that pushed the score to 19-6.
The game's final score came on a safety by the Bruins.
The Bruins recorded 260 yards of offense while the Longhorns had 215 yards.
Bruins 14, Pirates 12
Last week's game against Olathe was a low-scoring affair with missed extra points deciding the game's outcome.
Cedaredge scored first in the game with a touchdown in the first quarter. The extra point kick by Bryce Klaseen gave the Bruins a 7-0 lead.
Neither team crossed the goal line in second-quarter action, giving the Bruins a 7-0 halftime lead.
The Pirates got on the board in the third quarter but failed to convert on the PAT and trailed 7-6 heading to the final stanza.
Cedaredge scored its second touchdown in the last quarter and was good on the extra point once again for a 14-6 advantage. The Pirates also scored in the last quarter but came up short with the extra point try for a final score of 14-12.
In this game, Jacob Ostrom completed four of 10 passes for 43 yards and one interception. Christian Reynolds hauled in three of Ostrom's completions for 30 yards. Kyler Anderson caught one pass for 13 yards.
Reynolds paced Cedaredge's ground game with 115 yards on 15 carries and scored one touchdown. Tyler Cooper was Cedaredge's second leading rusher with 64 yards in 13 carries.
In all, Cedaredge finished the game with 260 yards of offense.
Brandon O'Hern had 11 tackles to lead the Bruin defense while Isaac Swoffer and Tré Labossierre added nine tackles each.
Cedaredge plays host to Aspen on Friday, Sept. 18, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
