The Bruins have played up a few times this season and have recorded an overall mark of 5-4 with a 4-0 3A District 5 League record.
All of the Bruins' opponents this past week involved 4A and 5A division schools. A contest on Friday against 4A Palisade was an 8-4 loss. Saturday's twin-bill included losses to 5A/4A Montrose, 18-4 and Delta, 4A, 7-6.
A look down the road shows two more games against Palisade, one each with Delta and Rifle and a season-ending doubleheader at home against 4A Eagle Valley.
Palisade 8, Bruins 4
A five-run first inning was more than the Bruins could overcome in an 8-4 loss to Palisade High School.
The Bruins had four errors that attributed to their defeat and issued nine walks to the Bulldogs along the way.
Cedaredge held the Bulldogs to three runs while scoring four of its own from the second inning on.
The Bruins had 10 hits in the game, with Shayna Dale and Lacey Rodriguez leading the way with two each. Both had doubles with Dale collecting two of the Bruins' three runs batted in. Palisade had three batters with two hits each, including a triple by pitcher Paige Orman.
Junior Brittany Kendall started in the circle for Cedaredge and left after one inning. Rodriguez replaced Kendall and had six strike outs.
Montrose 18, Bruins 4
Saturday morning's contest against the Indians had a better start for the Bruins. Montrose managed to score once in the first inning and plated three runs in the second to catch the Bruins, who had scored four runs, and tied the game, 4-4.
An 8-run third for Montrose was more than enough to hold off the upstart Bruins. The Indians outhit Cedaredge 14-6.
The Bruins were once again hurt by committing five errors in the game.
Grace Sanburg paced Montrose's 14-hit attack with three hits. Three players, Macy Webb-Alexander, Taylor Brown and Eleny Perez had two hits and three RBIs for the winners.
Chey Christian picked up two RBIs on a double, with Mykayla Wilkerson and Dale knocking in one run apiece.
Delta 7, Bruins 6
After spotting the Bruins two runs to start the game, Delta came back with three runs of its own to take a 3-2 lead.
Delta's lead did not last long with the Bruins scoring four times in the third inning to take a 6-3 lead. Five of those Bruin runs came on two home runs by Sam Galley, who was 2-3 in the game. Kendall had a triple for Cedaredge.
The Panthers scored three more runs in the fourth to tie the game and then plated the winning run in the bottom of the fifth as time expired to end the game.
Cedaredge limited the Panthers to eight hits with Lily Lockhart the only Delta batter to hit safely twice. One of Lockhart's hits was a home run. Keilee Womack also hit a home run for the Panthers.
The Bruins hosted Palisade at the Field of Dreams on Tuesday, Sept. 22. That contest's results will appear in next week's paper.
On Friday Cedaredge goes north to face Meeker's Cowboys, 1-1 and 6-5, the 3A District 5 League's third-place team.
Cedaredge and Delta will face each other for the last time this season on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Field of Dreams.
