With just one game remaining on their schedule, Cedaredge's Bruins are listed third in the 1A WSL football standings. Meeker, after its 12-7 conquest of Paonia last week, is firmly in first place with unbeaten records in both league (4-0) and overall (8-0). Paonia's Eagles are second with records of 3-1 and 7-1 and the Bruins, 39-0 winners over Grand Valley, are third with their 2-2 and 6-2 slates. Grand Valley is also 2-2 but has a 5-3 mark overall.

The Bruins and Hotchkiss (0-4 and 3-5) square off against each other this Friday night in Hotchkiss. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Bruins 39, Cardinals 0

Cedaredge's defense more than did its part in a 39-0 win over Grand Valley last week. Spearheaded by a plethora of strong tacklers, the Bruins recorded 57 total tackles in the game, with Brandon O'Hern's 10 tackles leading the charge. Isaac Swoffer wasn't far behind with his seven stops followed by Cole Stumpf, Jared Reynolds, Christian Reynolds and Tory Willson all contributing five tackles each.

O'Hern recorded a sack and Christian Reynolds had a pair for a total of 28 yards lost. O'Hern also turned in a safety for two points in the Bruins' win.

Cedaredge was mediocre in the passing department with sophomore Jared Reynolds handling the quarterbacking duties and Pedro Madaleno getting plenty of action in the back field. Reynolds completed two of 10 passes for 57 yards and one touchdown with a pair of interceptions going against him. Both of Reynolds' completions were to Drew Markley for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Swoffer regained his team-leading rushing statistics with 17 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Close behind Swoffer was O'Hern's 46 yards on five carries and Madaleno's 45 yards on 11 carries for a touchdown.

In all, the Bruins rushed for 262 yards on 39 attempts, and, with the passing yardage added to that, Cedaredge collected 319 total yards in the game.

Brendon Klaseen helped his team's successful play with four-for-four PAT kicks and converted a 43-yard field goal to finish the game with seven points.
