You have to start somewhere to get where you're going. That is wickedly true for the Aspen Skiers who visited Cedaredge's softball team in doubleheader action at The Field of Dreams.
Aspen, sporting a team of 14 freshmen and one sophomore, had the daunting task of taking on the 3A District 5 league leading Bruins last Saturday. At 4-0 and 5-1, the Bruins' only loss of the year was to Faith Christian, 15-13, earlier in the season.
In game one there was no score in the first inning. After that the runs came quickly and far too often for the Skiers in a 17-0 shutout. Game two was also lopsided, but the Skiers managed to score six runs in a 16-6 loss.
Bruins 17, Skiers 0
Cedaredge teed off on Aspen pitching in the second and third innings with seven and 10 runs respectively.
The youth and inexperience showed as Aspen committed six errors in four innings of play.
Cedaredge outhit the Skiers 15-1 with three players picking up three hits each. Brittney Thliveris led the way with a 3-3 day that included a double and three RBIs.Chey Christian knocked in two runs while going 3-3 with two doubles. Kelsey Stroud also had three hits in three at bats with an RBI.
Josie Hiatt was 1-3 with three RBIs. Stroud and Samantha Galley had triples in the game.
Brittany Kendall was the winning pitcher for Cedaredge.

Aspen took a 4-3 lead after one inning of play in game two. That lead vanished when Cedaredge outscored the Skiers 7-1 in the second inning.
The Bruins continued their hitting supremacy with two more runs in the third and three in the fourth. Aspen added its final run in the fourth with the Bruins scoring their last run in the fifth for a 16-6 finale.
Cedaredge outhit the Skiers 22-1 on its way to the win.
Galley had five RBIs in the game with a long home run in a 4-4 day at the plate. Chey Christian also had a four-bagger with four RBIs to her credit.
Cedaredge is scheduled to play Montrose on Saturday, Sept. 19, as part of the Delta Invitational tournament. Later that day the Bruins are slated to face Delta at 1 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Bruins will host Palisade in a 4 p.m. contest at The Field of Dreams.
