Delta High School hosted its annual Delta Invitational Golf Tournament last Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Devil's Thumb Golf Club. There were nine varsity teams represented with 41 athletes playing. Durango won the team title with a score of 225 with Montrose placing second at 228, and Steamboat Springs finishing its with their 230.

Delta was fourth with a 246 and Palisade fifth with a score of 260.

The Panthers and Bruins also competed at Cobble Creek in Montrose on Thursday.

Devil's Thumb

Durango's golf team posted a pair of 74s on its way to the team title at Delta. The Demons' Cy Spicer and Cory Gillespie shot 74s, with Cameron Barnhardt shooting a 77. Kobe Szura finished with an 82.

Tournament medalist honors belonged to Steamboat Springs' Britt Walton who finished play with a 69. Montrose's Glen-Michael Mahevetz had a 70, and Durango's Spicer and Gillespie finished with scores of 74 to tie for third.

Delta's final score was 246 with Logan Wood's 79 leading the way. Cristian Hall had an 83 and Blake Reiher an 84 for Delta's 246. Mason Garcia had an 88 and KC Carlson a 91 to complete the Panthers' scoring for the day.

Cedaredge High School's final score was 274 with Peter Carlson's 89 being the top score for the Bruins. Other Bruin scores included Jacob Lewis' 91, Duncan Campbell's 94, Matt Smelser's 96 and Chase Meyers' 120.

Cobble Creek Results

Delta's team score of 258 was good for sixth place, with Grand Junction winning the team title with a 226.

Scoring for Delta was Logan Wood's 81, KC Carlson's 88 and Blake Reiher's 89. Cristian Hall shot a 90, and Mason Garcia finished with a 97.

Wood's 81 was tenth in the hunt for medalist's honors. Fruita Monument's Troy Dangler fired a 66 to win top honors. The Bruins' Lewis and Carlson tied for 15th with rounds of 85.

Cedaredge was scheduled to play at Battlement Mesa on Monday, Aug. 31, with the Bruins and Panthers heading to Steamboat Springs to play Haymaker on Thursday, Sept. 3.

Both schools are set to play in Montrose, Black Canyon, Sept. 8, and at The Bridges, Sept. 9.
