The Cedaredge Bruins are keeping pace with Paonia in a tight 2A/1A WSL volleyball race. Paonia is shown on top of the league standings with a 4-0 league mark and 7-0 overall. The Bruins are second at 4-0 and 7-3. The two teams are set to meet on Oct. 1 at Cedaredge High School at 6 p.m.

The Bruins were in De Beque last week where they controlled the pace of the game for a 3-0 win. Cedaredge won the first set 25-14 and then kept momentum with a 25-17 second-set decision and scored a 25-11 win in the third set.

Kills leaders for the Bruins included Hannah Gilmore (10), Kenzie Henderson (6) and Nellie Freeman (5). Freeman was the best points producer from the service line with nine aces.

Freeman was also the top digger for Cedaredge with 15, and Henderson finished with 11.

Kendall McHugh doled out 19 assists to lead the Bruins in that category.

Cedaredge took its high-powered play to Rangely on Saturday and was successful in scoring a 3-0 win over the Panthers.

The Bruins had their toughest test of the match in set one with a 25-21 victory. Set two was slightly better for Cedaredge as it scored a 25-18 win and then sealed the match win with a 25-12 decision in set three.

Rangely's Katelyn Brown recorded 11 kills in the match and Katye Allred had seven.
