Cedaredge High School's baseball team ran into a determined Meeker team on Saturday. The Cowboys used a late-inning surge to score a 13-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader in 2A District 2 baseball play in Cedaredge.
The Bruins mounted a comeback in game two and scored a 19-2 decision to earn a split with the Cowboys.
Cedaredge was originally scheduled to play the doubleheader in Meeker, but recent weather rendered fields in Meeker unplayable.
Paonia and Hotchkiss lead the league with 8-0 and 10-0 records while the Bruins carry a 6-3 mark. Meeker is 1-3.
Meeker 13, Bruins 3
Both teams plated two runs in the opening frame with Cedaredge taking a 3-2 lead after two innings of action.
Meeker dominated the remainder of the game with 11 more runs scored in the next five innings.
Cedaredge's Chase Meyers was 4-4 at the plate with an RBI, and Tre' Labossiere picked up two RBIs with his 1-3 performance.
Bruins 19, Meeker 2
The track meet was on in game two as the Bruins raced around the base paths for 12 runs in the first inning.
Cedaredge added another five runs in the bottom of the second and took a 17-2 lead into the fourth inning.
The Bruins' defense held Meeker scoreless the rest of the way, ending the game after five innings of play.
Cedaredge is in Rangely on April 8 for doubleheader play beginning at 2 p.m.
Paonia is at Cedaredge on April 12 for a key league matchup. Play begins at 4 p.m.
