Bruins take over top spot in 1A WSL play

The Cedaredge Bruins went to 4-0 in the 1A WSL standings to take over first place after Paonia's first loss in two years. The Bruins handled Center 40-13 while the Eagles fell 35-0 to Bayfield.
The Vikings were 3-0 coming into last week's game at home and were averaging 42 points a game.
Cedaredge used its running game to stymie the Vikings' defense and racked up 290 yards on 45 carries by Bruin ball carriers. Senior Tyler Cooper led the charge with 16 carries and 71 yards for Cedaredge. Cooper scored on a kickoff return and finished with two touchdowns for the Bruins in the win.
Jacob Ostrom toted the ball seven times for 66 yards and scored one touchdown. Junior Christian Reynolds had 52 yards on nine carries.
Ostrom threw the ball 13 times and completed three passes for 20 yards, while sophomore quarterback Pedro Madaleno threw one pass for 25 yards, and a score, to Tristan Waddell.
Junior Isaac Swoffer was the leading tackler for the Bruins with nine and Reynolds finished with seven. Junior Brandon O'Hern had five tackles for the Bruins.
Sophomore kicker Brendon Klaseen finished the game as the team's second-leading scorer with eight points.
Brendon Klaseen was good on all five of his PAT kicks and booted a field goal to score his eight points.
The Bruins will host 1-3 Hotchkiss on Oct. 2 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
