The Cedaredge Bruins upped their softball league mark to 5-0 over the past week with a non-conference win over Palisade and a 3A District 5 decision over Meeker.
Against Palisade the Bruins avenged a loss to the Bulldogs, 8-4, on Sept. 18 in tournament play in the Delta Invitational Tournament. The rematch on Sept. 22 was an 8-5 win for Cedaredge.
Both teams scored three runs in the opening frame, with Palisade taking a two-run lead on single runs in each of the second and third innings.
Cedaredge caught up and passed the Bulldogs in the sixth inning with five runs.
Junior Kelsey Stroud paced the Bruins' hitters with two hits in three at bats for two RBIs. Another two-RBI performer included junior Brittney Thliveris who was 1-3 with a double. Senior Chey Christian had a triple that produced a run.
Palisade's Paige Orman was 1-3 with three RBIs.
Lacey Rodriguez (3-1) went 6.2 innings for the Bruins to pick up the win. Orman (8-4) took the loss.
Samantha Galley held the hot bat against Meeker as she went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Brittany Kendall had a hit in three at bats for another two RBIs and Stroud got two RBIs on a hit to aid the Bruins' winning cause.
Cedaredge started the game with three runs in the first inning and the Cowboys matched that production in their half of the first frame.
The Bruins took the lead for good in the second inning with a five-run surge. Meeker came back with two runs of its own making the score 8-5 going to the third.
Another run in the third and two more in the sixth accounted for the Bruins' 11 runs. Meeker picked up its last two runs in the bottom of the third for a final score of 11-7.
Kendall was the winning pitcher for Cedaredge and Tori Lasker took the loss.
Next up for Cedaredge, following its rematch with Delta on Sept. 28, is its third game with Palisade on the 30th at Bergman Field on the Campus of CMU. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
The Bruins are in Rifle on Oct. 2 for a 4 p.m. game against the Bears.
Cedaredge's fourth and fifth games of the week will be a doubleheader against Basalt with the first game set for an 11 a.m. start. Game two has a 1 p.m. starting time.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
