The Hotchkiss Bulldogs are 1-1 heading into week three of the prep football season following a 14-26 non-conference loss to Class 2A's Coal Ridge Friday at New Castle.

Chase Hiatt connected on eight of 11 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown. Hiatt connected with Will Scarlett for two receptions and 14 yards, and Braxton Trujillo for 91 yards on two receptions, including a 47-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

On the ground, Devin Curtis rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown in 11 carries, Colton Peebles had 11 carries for 49 yards, and Hiatt had four carries for 35 yards and scored a two-point conversion.

It's Homecoming week at Hotchkiss High School. The Bulldogs will host the Montrose junior varsity team. Kick-off time is 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled against Center, which was one of three teams in the state to cancel its season due to a lack of participation.

After exploring several options, Class 4A Montrose agreed to send its JV squad to Hotchkiss for Homecoming night, said Bulldogs head coach Curtis Hintz. Montrose has about 75 players on its roster and plays a home game this Thursday, so it won't affect its game. "We're very fortunate that Montrose was willing to do that," said Hintz. It gives the Bulldogs a Homecoming game, and the maximum nine regular season games. It also gives Hotchkiss four home games this season instead of three.

Because they are playing a non-varsity team, the outcome of the game will not affect either team's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) used in post season play to measures a team's strength relative to other teams. The Colorado High School Activities Association adopted the system in 2016.
