Hotchkiss faced three tough foes in 2A District 5 play with all three winding up being losses. The Bulldogs began the week with Vail Mountain (7-2) and fell 3-0 to the Gore Rangers in Vail. Meeker was in town on Sept. 30 and treated its hosts poorly by winning in three sets. The week's final match came in Rangely on Oct. 1 where the Panthers scratched out a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs (1-6, 4-10).
Against Vail Mountain, Hotchkiss lost the first two sets 11-25 and 12-25 before putting up a battle in set three before losing 22-25.
The match with Meeker, the number three team in league standings, showed more consistency, but the Bulldogs could not prevent a shutout 15-25, 14-25 and 15-25.
Rangely, the league's second-place team, kept the Bulldogs at a distance with winning scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-19.
The look ahead has the Bulldogs visiting Ouray on Oct. 10 and traveling to De Beque on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
