The Hotchkiss girls basketball team is 4-1 heading into this week's First Colorado National Bank Delta County tournament, which opens Friday at Delta High School.
A 21-point second quarter boosted Hotchkiss to a 54-33 non-conference win over the Miners last Thursday at Telluride High School. The Bulldog defense completed 23 steals, including six by Shay Glaser and five by Elsie Vasquez and Kaiya Firor. Carson Collins led the Bulldogs in scoring with 19 points and in rebounds with 17.
The girls open the FCNB tournament at 3 p.m. Friday against Cedaredge. The game will no doubt challenge Hotchkiss, as the undefeated 3A Bruins are coming off a tournament win at Aspen, where they defeated Aspen, 52-8, Meeker 38-37, and Soroco, 43-39.
The boys team is also 4-1 heading into this weekend's tournament following a non-conference 82-78 win at Telluride. It faces 3-1 Cedaredge at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
