With six games remaining in regulation play the Hotchkiss Bulldogs are now 10-2 overall and 3-0 and in second place in the 2A District 3/5 baseball standings ahead of this Saturday's doubleheader at Rangely.
In their 11-2 win over Nucla, the Dogs took a 6-0 lead in the opening inning. They had a three-inning drought before scoring four runs in the sixth inning. The Mustangs scored their runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
In a game that the 10-run mercy rule was created for, the Bulldogs rolled over Dove Creek at Cortez in five innings Saturday, 31-1. Dove Creek (0-13 overall, 0-2, 1A District 1) is a young team with one junior and one senior after losing eight seniors last season. Hotchkiss put nine runs on the board in the opening inning, and added 18 runs in the third. Hotchkiss had 30 hits including 23 RBIs, and seven doubles for the game, and three errors.
The Bulldogs travel to Rangley this Saturday for a conference doubleheader. Also a young team, the Panthers are 1-13. Their one win was an 8-6 game on March 31 against Dove Creek. Hotchkiss has one more home game ahead of playoff season, at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 27, against rival Paonia. On April 28 it wraps up the two-game series at Paonia.
