An open house will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Hillman House, 551 Juniper Street in Hotchkiss.
The house was built for Mike Hillman, who was injured in a fall last May and is now a quadriplegic. Mike is coming home the first week of November. The Hillman family will live in the house for as long as they need it, said Celeste Waske with the Hillman House Foundation, a non-profit created to build the house. When they no longer need it, the house will be available for someone else.
Hillman House was funded by cash and in-kind donations from the community, said Waske, and this is a way to let everyone who pitched in see the house on the inside before the family moves on Nov. 3. "The open house is a way to say thank you to all who made the project possible."
On Saturday, Nov. 5, the public is invited to a thank-you reception with the Hillmans from 6-9 p.m. at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge, 190 Bridge Street.
Also on Nov. 5, the Gallery and Runway Benefit for Hillman House happens from 5-10 p.m. at ShadeScapes USA, 122 E. Bridge Street in Hotchkiss. The event features live music, a gallery featuring a variety of works by local artists and a runway show featuring one-of-a-kind pieces by Chelsy Reed and her company, Chelsy Lorin.
An early show geared toward children and families runs from 5-7 p.m. and a second show for ages 16 and older runs from 8-10 p.m. Cocktail attire is recommended for both shows. Tickets are $15, or $20 with reserved seating for the fashion show, and can be purchased at squareup.com/store/hillman-house.
Donations to Hillman House and for the Hillman family can be made at Bank of Colorado locations. There are two accounts, one to benefit Hillman House and the other to help with the Hillmans' ongoing expenses.
