Byron Benson died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2017. He was 86.
He was born in Austin to Clarence and Urgal (Ament) Benson on July 25, 1930. He graduated from Cedaredge High School and enlisted in the military. He served two years in the Korean Conflict.
Upon returning home, he began farming and ranching in Delta.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ellen Broadwell of New Bern, N.C., and Cheryl Benson of Delta; and one sister-in-law, Edna Benson of Grand Junction.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Avon Benson and Clarence "Mike" Benson; and one sister, Eunice.
Viewing will be held Jan. 11, between 4 and 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors, 155 Merchant Drive, Montrose. Interment will follow at Delta City Cemetery at 2 p.m.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
