Calvin Kelly

Melville "Calvin" Kelly died Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at San Juan Living Center in Montrose. He was 91.

Inurnment will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 3, at Delta City Cemetery with officers of Delta Elks Lodge #1235 and Lee Marts VFW Post #3571 conducting. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Paul Rosin officiating.

Mr. Kelly was born in Holyoke Sept. 9, 1924, to Lee and Gladys (Weir) Kelly. He graduated from Holyoke High School and attended Western State College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served through the end of World War II in 1946.

He married Ardis Rehfeld on July 13, 1946, in St. Francis, Kan. They lived in Fort Morgan before moving to Delta in 1967.

Mr. Kelly was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Austin. He was a past exalted ruler of Delta Elks Lodge #1235 and a past district deputy grand exalted ruler. He was a member of Lee Marts VFW Post #3571 in Delta, a former member of the VFW post in Holyoke, which he helped build, and a volunteer fireman in Holyoke.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, raising cattle and greyhounds, fishing, golfing, playing poker and deer hunting. While in Fort Morgan he enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ardis Kelly of Delta; his daughters, Colleen (Bill) Jensen of Delta and Sandra Schreiner of Greeley; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon Kelly; a brother, Lee Kelly; and an infant sister at birth.
