At the Orchard City Town Board meeting on Aug. 9, it was announced that the trustee Cannabis Revenue Committee has performed the task assigned to it by the full town board.

"We feel we have completed our work," announced Tom Huerkamp who along with Gynee Thomassen comprises the committee membership.

Huerkamp suggested that at the next town board meeting in September a final report be given involving three possible sources of additional town revenue: a town sales tax, a town property tax, and taxes and licensing fees from allowing marijuana businesses to operate in Orchard City.

Huerkamp has stated several times that the Cannabis Revenue Committee was tasked by the full board with exploring possible revenue streams to the town from allowing, licensing, and taxing marijuana businesses. Noting once again the committee's directive from the Board of Trustees, Huerkamp said the purpose was to "determine if a revenue stream is available to the town" from marijuana business.

Mayor Ken Volgamore added to Huerkamp's comments saying, "We need to watch how to keep the town going. We need to be very careful and keep revenue going. We are exploring different things."

The town board members thanked the public for turning out for the meeting. Several trustees assured their constituents that the public's view points had been heard.

Trustee Gary Tollefson said, "All of us expect the voters to decide. Voters will make the final decision."
