Casey Joe Gillenwater died in a car accident Sept. 13, 2017. He was 25.
Funeral services were held Sept. 17 at the Paonia High School. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
He was born in Delta Aug. 17, 1992, to Larry and Pam Gillenwater. He spent all of his life on the family farm on Stewart Mesa. He attended school in Paonia and graduated from Paonia High School in 2011. He lettered all four years in high school in both baseball and football.
In December 2015 he graduated from Colorado Mesa University with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science with a minor in chemistry. He worked in construction for High Country Equipment.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating on Lake Powell, shooting rifles, snowmobiling, Razor riding and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his fiancée, Samantha Holm; parents, Larry and Pam Gillenwater; brothers, Tyler and his girlfriend Amber Pagone, and Jesse and his girlfriend Carina Lewton; grandparents, Dale and Sharon Gillenwater; uncles, Andy (Shirley) Pavlisick, Bill (Arlene) Pavlisick, Dan (Carri) Gillenwater and Rick Gillenwater; aunt, Deb (Phil) Varner; soon to be father-in-law, Doug Holm; sister-in-law, Justine (Jake) Hernandez; nephew, Jace Hernandez; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Lois Pavlisick; uncle, Frank Pavlisick; aunt, Kathy Gillenwater; and mother-in-law, Catherine Holm.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
