On March 1, Bernie Sanders was the choice among caucus voters in Crawford, Paonia and Hotchkiss, garnering 24 delegates compared to six for Hillary Clinton.

Anne Every, caucus coordinator for Delta County since 2010, said turnout numbers in Paonia precincts 18, 19 and 20 were "staggering." Whether that broke all-time records isn't certain, since her records date back to 2008, but they broke recent records, said Every. Organizers knew the numbers would be high and booked the Paonia campus of the Delta-Montrose Technical College because they were the biggest rooms available in the area.

In 2008, what is now Precinct 18 recorded 62 caucus voters, compared to 82 this year. Precinct 19 had 81 voters, and Precinct 20 had 92 voters. Even in 2010, when Bennett and Rominoff were running against each other in a highly-contested state, "There still were not these numbers," said Every.
