Welcome back to school! Cedaredge FFA chapter has been busy over the summer. Forty-two of our members represented CHS as the largest chapter delegation to the 88th Colorado FFA State Convention in Sterling. During the convention our chapter learned how to intensify our FFA experience. Members enjoyed recreational activities, motivational speeches and leadership workshops. One of the highlights was watching Miss Rachael Latta as she retired from the state treasurer's office. Seven of our members competed in parliamentary procedure, one participated in the extemporaneous speaking contest and four of our members -- Cheyenne Stone, Selbi Shenold, Juan Perez and Brianna Morton -- were awarded the highest state honor and received their Colorado FFA State Degree. Last but not least our past member and chapter president, Ryan Latta, was elected state FFA vice president. It was an amazing week in Sterling intensifying Cedaredge FFA.
Our activities did not stop there. Our officer team completed their officer training in Meredith where they planned the year and have a theme of "Breaking the Wall." As well, the chapter helped tremendously at the Delta County Fair. Members directed cars to open parking spaces before and during large events such as the Endurocross races and the Ranch Rodeo. At the horse show, members set up the trail course, announced the list of winners and competitors, lined competitors up and aided the scribe in the show ring. The chapter also helped the Delta County Livestock Association at its annual scholarship barbecue during the fair where the members served an incredible 500 people.
Catering and serving food is a normal occurrence for members of Cedaredge FFA. September promises to be busy with numerous catering and leadership opportunities. Some anticipated events include: Delta Trap Shoot Labor Day dinner, Western Slope Club 20 dinner, back-to-school barbecue, BIG leadership conference and district leadership conference. The annual FFA tailgate party is coming up quickly. This year the tailgate party will be hosted during the second home football game which falls during homecoming. On Sept. 23 the FFA will have an all-you-can-eat taste of agriculture. The menu will include your choice of lamb, beef or pork with a side of ranch style beans, corn on the cob, dinner roll and local fruit. Please come Sept. 23 to cheer on the football team and enjoy a great meal.
